when computer is in-active, it asks me to sign in again. but my password is not accepted?

usually when i go away from my computer for a few minutes, the screen goes blank.Then I come back, and it asks me to sign my password. Well my password has been the same for along time, for some reason it is not accepting my password as of yesterday ? i am confused as to why?
