Can't remove SCIM icon from the notification area

Asked by Victor Osadci

The SCIM icon is enabled by default.
When choosing exit from the context menu, it exits, only to open again.

It has a default setting of showing itself in the panel, so when it is closed it reopens itself.

How to fix: Go to System -> Preferences -> SCIM Input Method Setup
Go to the Panel/GTK options and untick "show tray icon"

Also, to disable it from being activated accidentally, the section labeled "Hotkeys" in FrontEnd/Global Setup is where you can modify what key combinations activate it.

Be sure to press Apply and OK when you are doing editing the settings

Best,

Greg
