Desktop Grid not working

Asked by Sven R. Kunze

I am using Ubuntu 14.04, Unity with no modifications. The Desktop grid seems to be too small to host the Desktop icons appropriately although the 'keep aligned' option is checked.

That is:
1) icons are not aligned well: the vertical/horizontal distances between three or more icons are uneven
2) sometimes icons overlap
3) sometimes there is a great deal of space in between

4) icons slip very far away into undesired positions
5) sometimes 4) happens although there is actually enough space

What is wrong here?

I have seem many threads (like this one: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1679875) on the Web about this issue, but nobody really seemed to have fixed it.

Hello,

I add this as comment so your question remains open.

Did you try to change the scale of the icons? I mean, when you open the "Files" program, edit your preferences, you have on the first tab some options which have an impact on the look of your desktop. Maybe if you change some settings there you have better display?

Good luck
Enrico

Thank you for you reply, Enrico.

On said tab, I can change the "Default Zoom Level" which scales down/up the Desktop elements. Unfortunately, this also scales down/up everything else.

So, the grid remains open.

[EDIT] So, the grid remains broken.
