Failure to download extra files

Asked by Brutal_Moose

I am a novice at Linux. If you have advice, or an answer to my question, please give a full explanation, so that I may understand it. Please do not omit any steps in the instructions, or I may not be able to complete them. I cannot make choices for myself on Linux.
Ubuntu 15.04 laptop. Sometimes, this error appears on my desktop:

------------------------

Failure to download extra data files

The following packages requested additional data downloads after package installation, but the data could not be downloaded or could not be processed.

wine-browser-installer, wine-silverlight5.1-installer, netflix-desktop

The download will be attempted again later, or you can try the download again now. Running this command requires an active internet connection.

<Run this action now>

---------------------------

I have attempted to <Run this action now>, but it does not succeed. The weird thing is, all 3 of these programs that it lists with bugs, are working fine on my system (after a large amount of time and novice frustration).

You don't need Netflix desktop. Just install Chrome browser and it will run there.

Are you only installing silver light for Netflix?

I do not want to use Google Chrome, thank you though. I need silverlight to work on the web in general, not for Netflix. My Netflix Desktop app takes care of that.

Then I suggest you contact the PPA maintainers of the PPAs you have added to seek advice. They will be able to advise on their packages

I misclicked and certified this problem as solved. It is not.
Parsnip, how do you know I received these programs through PPAs?

My understanding is that PPAs only exist in the terminal. I install most programs through the wonderful Ubuntu Software Center.

Because they are not official packages. If you search for the names you find them in guides by the likes of OmgUbuntu and stuff like that.

also because of experience of the OS.

You can add PPAs in Software Centre too but many find it easier to add them in terminal. If you start adding PPAs don't be surprised if you start getting issues. They are not moderated by the official Canonical team. They are compiles and packages create by Joe Somebody out on the Internet.

Can you help with this problem?
