Can't install Ubuntu

Asked by Anthony

Hi,hate to bother but i have something going on here. I want to put Ubuntu Studio on a USB stick and test it and install it. I have a usb internet modem, and i just put in it memory stick.I tried with Universal USB Installer, Xboot and install depot multisystem. With the Universal USB installer when i click on Step 1 Select a Linux Distribution from... and click on Ubuntu after that i click on thep 2 and Browse so i can choose the .Iso file of the Ubuntu Studio and its not finding it. It just not there. If i click on Ubuntu 32 64 Bit on step 1, after that i browse to choose the file, i choose the Iso file and it appear in green color in the field (desktop...ubuntustudio-14.04.2-dvd-i386.iso). On step 3 i choose the usb stick drive. (the software see the drive, it shows the name of it and how much space it is, and the usb stick is working fine) and the "create" button next to cancel is not working, i cant click on it. In case you are wondering, no the pc didnt froze or something, the software makes the button kinda blank. After that i did format on the memory stick and still, the same!

Have you tried unetbootin instead?
Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

I have no idea what md5 is. i tried with YUM although its not recommended, for installation, but for a test run is okay. And for the last 3 hours i failed a hundred times running the Ubuntu Studio. I restarted the pc couple of times so i can figure out how to boot it, after i boot the linux. i click on test linux without installation. the logo appears in front "linux for creative humans" and it spins forever. (i waited couple of times and that one time was about 50 min) If i buy the dvd, what are the chances this is going to happen? And if the chances are zero, than why? what is the difference between my booted flash drive and the DVD?

What operating system are you using when you try to create that bootable USB stick?
Have you already downloaded that ubuntustudio*.iso file to your hard disk?
Have you executed the md5test on that .iso file? see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Hi, its windows 8. I downloaded the 32 bit ubuntu not ubuntu studio, booted it.And it was... really nice, fast and clean. It connected to the internet without installing the software (usb stick that was also holding memory card with the ubuntu installed on it) And at first i saw that it wont run audio files from my folders, and after that,no matter that it didnt slow down.Things stopped to work one by one. After 10 minutes smooth web browsing It disconnected the internet, and it showed me that it cannot boot the usb stick that is the internet with the memory card with the ubuntu on it. i unplugged and plugged couple of times in 3 usb's and it showed me that error that was, a long code. After couple of minutes, it refuses to enter the settings that are on the left, before that i was able to enter them, and after that i click, it shows that is loading, and after that doesnt show anything... it stays like that.Meanwhile the ubuntu OC is going really strong, no lag,no nothing.I know its normal and all, but my laptop is new and not really powerful, and when i got it out of the box, it was really laggy from the beginning, when i wanted to deinstall and deactivate all the apps and software, that even if you have powerful pc,it will slow it down, it took me hours, simply because the windows didn't move! Although its surprising how its holding recording in all the daws i've had (2 tracks at once, stereo) that's a mystery for me.
So, after this happen, i was assuming its because the ubuntu is not actually installed, i booted the usb again, and the ubuntu didn't load, it showed me the loading screen with the logo for more than 40 minutes. and after that i tried couple of times to boot it but i was unable. The laptop makes some problems, i deactivated this uefi thingy, and then i am able to boot the usb by choosing it to boot, automatically is not possible. And after this problem with ubuntu, it showed me something like "please insert a boot cd and press any key" and i tried 3 or 4 times to force boot the ubuntu.
So... i made the md5sums test with a program, the hash is the same. The ubuntu and the ubuntu studio that failed the first time.
I really liked the ubuntu, because it was not holding the laptop. But i assume linux is the similar in performance, so i'm going to take a look at it.
If you have something for this problem, it would be really nice.

Hi,people. Turns out the flash drive was kinda broken. So i booted it from a new one (not expensive one) and it runs like a charm (Lubuntu). Now im going to try the ubuntu and some other linux distros.Really snappy and clean, although i like other distros more. One of the things that i really didnt like is staring at the monitor and waiting for the thing to happen so i can continue doing the thing that i was doing.I have no idea why people think that terminal is scary, i get my hands off the fretboards, i write in terminal, i continue with doing what i was doing. and thats it. no searching in the interface (as long as i know the command, and they are not hard at all) no searching in google for stuff that the system needs, no dramatic graphics... love it!
Piece and love everybody !
