Kernel service is not running. Ubuntu 15.04 on VirtualBox

Asked by Vadim Braun

I have updated Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10 -> 15.04 running on VirtualBox (the latest vrsion) on Windows 8.1 (x64). After that faced a problem. When logging in the error appears: "VBox Client: the VirtualBox kernel service is not running". And I cannot minimize the VBox window, window lay-out commands also don't work... So if I want to go back to Windows the only way for me to do it is to shut down Ubuntu.
I installed guest Vbox drivers but no effect :-(

This sounds like a problem with the guest additions.
Try reinstalling them.

Hello again! So, I re-installed the system and everything works OK now! It seems the problem appears only when you update from 14.04 -> 14.10 -> 15.04. But when you install Ubuntu 15.04 from scratch then it's OK.
