videos are playing hyperfast

Asked by pauls

Videos have worked fine since I loaded 14.04.2 Ubuntu. That all changed after turning my system off overnight.
When I turned the computer back on the videos I try to watch now, no matter the source or player, run as though they are in fast forward. There is no sound and when I checked playback speed it is "normal". I switched players with no change.
How do I go about locating the problem?

My system is a 64 bit Pentium I5 at 2.67 GHz with 6Gib ram and three hard drives.

I'm sorry yes in the web browser - I use Firefox - the one that came
with the distro but it has updated a few times.
Thanks,
Paul

Try running:

killall pulseaudio

Then wait a few seconds and try some Flash things.

I tried it once and waited ten minutes - no change.
I tried it again waited 15 minutes - no change
I tried it as super user waited ten minutes and then shut the computer
down and rebooted - still no change

It does ask me if I want to start my flash player but they still run at
very high speed with no audio.

I'm sorry to be such a bother - and I thank you for your time. If you
have anything else I can try don't hesitate.

Paul

I could still use some help here.
I don't want to have to reload Ubuntu again.

I know that people would like this question to go away as much as I
would like a solution.
It is very frustration not to be able to watch a video that is posted on
a forum or old movies that I sometimes play on the net.
ANYONE?
