Booting Ubuntu stops with a blackscreen

Asked by Dennis Kugelmann

System:
I have a Packard Bell Laptop with an Intel® Core™ i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz × 4 and an ATI Mobiltity Radeon HD 5470 Graphics 512MB. My OS is Ubuntu 15.04 64bit (the problem also appeared in 14.10, but not in 14.04)

Problem:
When I wan't to boot Ubuntu, I'll see for a short time the purple background usual for the Ubuntu booting process, but before I would have to insert my password to decode my whole HDD (not login to my user account), my screen turns black. I can't do nothing, except turn my Laptop off (long pressing the power button). After I got a blackscreen in the booting process and turned my Laptop off again, I can boot my Laptop without any problems.

I hope you can help me, it is very annoying to boot your Laptop twice, so can work with it.

P.S. In Ubuntu 14.04, where it worked well, I haven't encrypted my HDD.

If 14.04 worked fine, why did you fix what wasn't broken? Especially with 14.04 being LTS and supported til April 2019 and 14.10 being EOL in July this year.....

Makes very little sense.

Because 15.04 runs much better than 14.04 and I can live with this litte Bug in 15.04.
