Touchpad being recognized, but not working at all

Asked by Matthew

I just downloaded Xubuntu for the first time, I am very new to Linux, so even though there are several "solved" threads about this question, I do not understand them enough to follow them and fix this problem.

The touch-pad is being recognized as ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad and even shows up in settings. I am able to adjust sensitivity and enable/disable the touch-pad, but no matter what I do, the touch-pad remains unresponsive. The left and right buttons are not working either.

A USB mouse is currently working fine.

I have a Toshiba Satellite S50-B

If you can help, please explain it in a way that a complete beginner can understand

Thank You
