huawei e355 not giving internet connection on Xubuntu 14.04

Asked by mahesh

Hey I have a huawei e355 usb dongle with wif support.

On my Xubuntu 14.04 machine it gets detected

I am able to create a mobile broadband profile with it

It attempts to connect to the net but every time fails.

I also checked this on my laptop with mint 17

Same problem is there.

Is there any way I can troubleshoot this problem?

Is there any command by which I can see in terminal whats going on while dongle tries to connect?

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

Thanks

Mint is based on Ubuntu, or Debian, which Ubuntu is based on so isn't really trying something new. Testing in OpenSuse or Fedora would be a good test as it is actually different.
