wifi

Asked by Donald Duquet

I have two wifi cards one lynksys and one belkin. I used the lynksys on win and the belkin on linspire. neither connects on ubuntu 6.06. System->Administation->Networking recognizes each card and clicking on activate changes the status to active. What is the next step to connect to a hotspot. I connect in my public library and the county court house. They are both open/public hotspots. What is the next step I need to take to get Ubuntu6.06 laptop connected.

It would have been a good topic to be included in the Official Ubuntu Book I paid $30 for.

You might want to have a look at the wifi troubleshooting guide:-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WiFiTroubleshooting

Also Network Manager is a great too for managing your wireless connections:-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/NetworkManager

If you go through those guides, and come back here and update us with the results.
