Shutdown Hung up on the line shutting down Domain name server

Asked by Arun K Rajeevan

Hi,
For me my loving Ubuntu 7.10 works fine very since, but now when I shutdown my system it continues to ok still it reaches the line says

shutting down Domain name service

it stuck there. Ctrl+Alt+Del too not working.
In the start up It says

Starting Domain name service ... BIND [Fail]

So after the hung up I need to shut down manually.

Please try to manually stop bind i suppose you have bind9 installed then shutdown...
Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo /etc/init.d/bind9 stop
sudo shutdown -h now

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then try to remove bind9 from your pc, type:

sudo apt-get remove bind9

And try...

Hope this helps
