my new compaq notebook installs ubuntu without graphics and wifi

Asked by siegfried

my compaq 15-a019sg with intel graphics can install ubuntu 14.04 , but does not show it, the sreen stays black.
( I have installed ubuntu 15.04 blind and saw afterwards that the harddisk was correctly partitioned and ubuntu was there, - but I could not see it.
Wifi too did not work.
I have installed a debian netinstall which works, but without wifi and with a terribly looking screen.
I installed it in vesa mode.
Why can't I install Ubuntu in vesa mode and work from here?
Where can I find the drivers needed and how can I install them when I do not see what is going on?
Thanks,
      Siegfried
