Intermittent failure to copy or move files. System says it is read-only, but it isn't.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. System has started intermittently reporting that I can't copy or move files because they are read-only. They aren't. No system settings have been changed to bring this about.

Boot to LiveCD and run an fsck on the Linux partitions.
