14.04.2 lts won't boot up after major 112MB update yesterday - having to use system recovery mode.

Asked by Gary Pearce

Running Dell Inspiron with Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS only. After a major 112MB update yesterday, laptop will not boot up properly. I have to manually power it down and reboot it to get to use a previous recovery mode. Is their some way to correct this issue?

Problem Solved: Kernel / GRUB Conflict with recent update a few days ago

New Kernel 3.16 does not work with new GRUB 2.02~Beta on Trusty Tahr 14.04.2 LTS

Used GNOME TERMINAL version 3.6.2 to completely delete 3.16 kernel from GRUB menu and reverted to previous kernel 3.13 and new Beta GRUB works fine at start up boot. In other words, conflict between new kernel & Beta GRUB - the only kernel now listed in my Grub menu is version 3.13 and everything is back to normal.

I'll be checking future updates and only allowing certain updates to be down loaded so as to not have my laptop malfucntiong in the future.

Good luck.........garpea
