Firefox crashes on screen lock when Spotify is streaming

Asked by Brian Burger

Recently updated to 15.04, and discovered immediately that when I have Spotify streaming through Firefox 37.0.2 the lock screen timeout will not only crash Firefox, but apparently shut down every other application running at that time.

Just having Firefox running doesn't do this. The Spotify web page has to be running (which it pretty much always is...) for this to happen. No Spotify stream, no problems.

This was not a problem on 14.10, everything worked fine. Native music applications like Rhythmbox keep running just fine and play music while the screen is locked. Other sound events work fine while the screen is locked, including sound through other websites - Facebook alert chimes, for example.

EDIT to add: when I use Win+L or Ctrl+Alt+L to lock the screen everything keeps running normally. This appears to be specific to the timeout screen lock, for some reason.

Anyone else run into this and found a solution, short of disabling screen lock entirely, which I'd much rather NOT do?

Why not use the Spotify native Linux application?

Can you help with this problem?
