Sounds like you are asking about why an icon for it is placed in the Unity Launcher - not that it is actually running.

Ubuntu ships with default entries in the launcher - and I'm guessing these choices are geared toward making the system usable out of the box for typical desktop use. I do believe it does have a the Firefox browser (14.04 does - it's been a few weeks since I looked at 15.04) and putting a word processor in the list seems reasonable to me but...

As for email - some people use their browser and others a client so they probably leave it up to the user to decide.

If you don't want it there you can remove it by right clicking on it and selecting "Unlock from Launcher". If you want to add an app to the launcher run it, and then right click on its icon and select 'Lock to Launcher'.

If the Office Writer is actually running (i.e. has an open window) everytime you startup then other settings will need to be looked at.

No read the question ! . . EVERY time I started the 15.04 version Office writer started up but I cured that by erasing 15.04 qnd going back to 14.04 runs faster and does not have the problems in 15.04 . . And my scanner works again plus it see's all the rest of the things in the computer . . I have a i3 with 8 gig DDR3

I did read the question - but your description was different (or incomplete). Sorry I wasn't able to help you. I've stayed with 14.04 too so...

Well another person with same problem of Office writer opening on start up . . I deleted or removed the icon from the launch list . .
But why does nothing else start up on starting the 15.04 . . It is just a extra move to go to the Classic Menu Indicator to get the program to open !
