Why does my UBUNTU icon oon the top of my not work .?In stead of showing me my downloads ..it flashes many colors al over the screen and sometimes crashes entirely?????I have 14.04

UBUNTU icon on upper left Of launcher crashes computer. Can not access card game down loads or other programs I wish to lock to Launcher .

If you press ALT +F2 can you run it there?
Is the OS fully updated?

I could/should have added this: I installed ubuntu 14.10 from scratch on another Win machine that I downsized its partition. No upgrade -- fresh install. It does the exact same thing.
