dual boot

Asked by Jon Gates

Hello. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on an external hard drive, and afterwards could only re-boot into Windows with the external hard drive attached. The external hard drive has been lost, and I can no longer get into Windows. I don't want to wipe my HD because I have a lot of things I need to keep. Is there any way to restore the ability to boot from my C drive into windows?
Thank you.

You should be able to repair the windows boot loader using a Windows Recovery disk if you have one - boot from it and go through the options until you reach "Startup Recovery".

Another possibility is using a live-CD or live-usb. There are several tools that can be used - one is Boot Repair (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair). You can either create a Boot-Repair-Disk or install it onto a live-cd/usb session and run it from there.

Can you help with this problem?
