R.JOEJ-STAFFORD,

Fire up a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal) and enter the following code:
sudo apt-get install lame lame-extras liblame-dev

You will be prompted for a password. Enter your password. The packages will get installed.
Now try your conversion.

Write back if anything else comes up. . .

With Regards,
Zombie.

Try this wiki:

See if that helps. . .

great page a little unclear at times yet the problem remains

at what appears to be step13 in this dialog i am not getting a box or screen prompt

what is supposed to occure hear is your setting up mp3 export

i am not getting the warning screen to proceed

is there another program that works with lame that i can try to transfer the wav files into that will export the appropriate format

i have opened a bug report on this and i am not giving up but definately ready for a new approach

i have had the ubuntu package for a week and still havent got to explore it yet this was the only program i had wanted to use

just a little dissapointing

R.JOEJ-STAFFORD,

Try sox for audio conversion.
sudo apt-get install sox

hey zombie thanks again i must be on the same wavwelink as you i just went down

to the public library and checked out all three books on linux out of the 200 computer logs.

well any way there 2 were on debian and one mentioned sox

i have solved the problem finally and someone should put it to fact im not quite sure

how to do this but ill leave the basics here until i can really put a tutor together

so i downloaded the meta package for artistic "music" studio which i believe is called

bunutu by the "overlords" which suppsibly installed sox but i cant find the icon so ill use your terminal

command and see if i cant get it going too

next you must installing meta restricted packages which include,

generic ,server, 386(the dinosaur) and all linux-restricted which in this systems meta

seems to be 3 packages_there will be two unchecked linux and linux-386

as well as as well as restricted system packages and you might need the restricted systems manager

you should receive and install all appropriate uploads for service dating which will include the audacity beta

version 1.3.4. at this point this will give you the the menu to export options in the file section of audacity

if you try to bring lame into the other version "stable" or whatever there giving people it will register lame but

will not allow you the export option.

so perhaps just the beta is all you need but you will still have to go into synaptic and find lame and lame

extras under all

and the beta will not download unless you choose the above listings without going to a webpage for the tar

so thanks for staying with me on this hope this may help you further or someone else

i tried to reload ubuntu 6 times with kde, gnome, and other funtions thinking i wasnt getting a good seed

and the response is the same

beta is the one
