I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 32 Bit, doesn't work right

I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 32 bit with updates on my second laptop. I'm having some major issues. It's running very choppy, and freezes up! When I open up random programs it takes a minute to clear so I can read them. Any suggestion?

I suggest you check your RAM using Memtest86 from Grub as a good starting point

Is this under Applications? Also what would you do next if ram isn't the issue?

Hold SHIFT at boot and select the Memtest86 using cursor keys
