Wubi hasn't been developed for THREE YEARS. It is dead

Resize your NTFS partition and do a real install to the freed space. If you want a quick and dirty try-before-you-buy use Virtualbox.

Wubi wasn't even good when it was being developed. It was incredibly fragile at best.

Thanks, I have a HP laptop and when I do a partition and install Ubuntu it thinks it a bug and wipes the hard drive of both the windows AND Ubuntu. Is there a way around this.

Could you show a screen shot of your partitions?

When you set up the partition you do if in the normal way, I boot into the partitioned using F12, do a full installation, but when you reboot to complete the installation the windows part of the partition has being deleted. Is there a way of doing the partition and not losing the windows part of the installation.
