Lubuntu 12.04 install crashes at end of install process

Asked by bill

I first tried installing 64 bit, but it crashed somewhere after it was creating user. The machine is older so I tried again with 32 bit. Crashed same spot, Is there something common I could be overlooking? I am a complete novice.
This is a Pentium 4 that was shipped with Windows XP.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
If you burned a CD or DVD, did you birn as slowly as possible?

Andrew, thank you for the advice.
I had already checked the md5 on the iso file, it was correct. Checked it on the cd, it was wrong.
Slowed a new burn down to 1x, and it is still wrong on that cd.
Interestingly, the bad md5 on the 1x burn is the same as the bad md5 on the 52x burn.
Flaw with the burner?

The only reason I bothered with the cd is that I tried 3 times following the guide to load from a usb thumb drive ant it would not boot. I did verify the boot list was set to boot from the usb first.
Any advice on getting that working?
Thanks again!

Did you try all USB ports?
Try burning a CD as slowly as possible on a different system.

Can you help with this problem?
