terminal and xterm cannot be resized

Asked by Jeffrey Springer

This just started today after I installed the latest update to my 14.04 Desktop that required a reboot. A later update did not solve the problem. I can use the mouse to move the terminal around. When I hover the mouse at the edge, the mouse cursor changes shape appropriately but I cannot change the site. Once the mouse cursor is changed (as I just described) I have to click twice on the title bar to return the mouse cursor to its normal shape and function. There doesn't seem to be any difference between the terminal and the xterm. I did not test the gnome-terminal. Thanks, Jeff

If you use Compiz then use ccsm to disable then re-enable the window resize addon.

I don't use Compiz. I am weighing installing it versus upgrading to version 14.10. Any thoughts on this?

14.10 is EOL in July this year. 14.04 is LTS and supported til April 2019.

Do you use the Unity shell?

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have started the upgrade to version 14.10. I have been using the straight vanilla terminal of 14.04. I have been using Ubuntu for several years and have never modified the shell or the windows system. Thanks again, Jeff

I successfully installed 14.10. This corrected the resizing problems with the terminal.

You may want to upgrade to Vivid (Ubuntu 15.04) as Utopic (Ubuntu 14.10) is EOL in July this year.

When do you think that 15.04 will be stable enough to switch to, or is ready right now? Where can I get information of the status of the various Ubuntu releases? Thank you!

When it's released. It's in beta now so not long.
