"dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" working bad?

Asked by Gerard Abelló

I used to use the command "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" to configure my X server. But in the last version of ubuntu (I'm using 8.04 alpha5) this command only ask for the mice and the keyboard, and not for the graphic card, the resolution etc. which is the important part for me. Is this a bug or just normal, and if it's normal there's a new way to do it?
Thanks

This is normal. Hardy uses xserver-xorg 1.4 which tries to get rid of xorg.conf. Hardware should be detected when starting the xserver and while hotpluging devices like mice, tabletts and monitors.

I installed the drivers, I configured Ubuntu to use the Nvidia drivers but every time I restart the configuration fails and returns to a 800x600 and no Acceleration. This happened to me in gutsy but with "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" I used to solve it. What can I do?

Hi Gerard Abelló,

Did you already try displayconfig? With displayconfig is possible switch video cards and resolutions.
