ubuntu 14.10 imperfect creation of dual boot system on Lenovo B50-30-Touch

Asked by RickG

grub partition link to Windows 8.1 does not work. However, Windows 8.1
can be reached by turning off legacy boot support.

I downloaded 14.10 and created a live USB key.

to get the key to be recognized, I had to turn on legacy support, which then booted fine.

The option to try or install came up and I eventually chose Install and divided the disk between
the two systems successfully.

Grub and Ubuntu 14.10 installed ok.

however the Grub option to boot windows fails, saying reinsert the Windows media (which I don't have).

a Windows recover USB key also doesn't work.

However, I can reach Windows 8.1 by turning off legacy support, and booting and it appears to run fine.

Turning legacy back on runs GRUB and reaches Ubuntu OK.
