lightdm (PID 1302) - high cpu load (>50%)

Asked by linuxfan

Hi everyone!
I have a problem now with high cpu load (about 50%) for process – lightdm (PID 1302). This problem appeared only recently and I did not encounter it before. My PC doing nothing, just standing idle but even in this case this process (1302) is using almost a half cpu's power. I can not do anything with this process, neither to kill it or change priority. I'm lost what to do!
My system's specs:
Release 12.04 (precise) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.2.0-79-generic
GNOME 3.4.2
Memory: 2,0 GiB
Processor: Intel® Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40GHz × 2
Available disk space: 52,6 GiB
Any help, please!

Actually this advice made things even worse! ..pity :(
Anyway, in the end after all those modifying-deleting procedures of this file (xorg.conf) and on-line Ubuntu updating I managed at last to deal with it. CPU load is now back to normal ratings as it was earlier before! I dunno … maybe it was xorg.conf.failsafe responsible for it somehow?! I really don't know....I was on the brink of crashing my PC ;). Just for reference - it better make an archive copies of these files now to be safe later. Cheers!
