What are you using to share the data? Is it Samba?

You will need to set a Samba password on the server then. Run:

sudo smbpasswd -a $USER

(you don't need to change the command above in any way). You will need to authenticate sudo, then you will be setting your credential. I suggest you simply use the same login password. Then when you are asked to authenticate, use the username you ran the command as, followed by the passport you just set
