PC suddenly freezes then switches off during use (using OpenOffice, & web browswer

PC has ubuntu 14.04 it suddenly freezes then switches off during use.It began yesterday that whenever I played an online video on youtube it would freeze and then shut down. Today it has got worse & is crashing and switching off whenever i try to work. I work with OpenOffice (word&Calc,)& I also have my email open in firefox & then everything freezes & computer switches off!
Any help with this would really be appreciated!

Have you tested the RAM using Memtest86 from Grub?

Couldn't use the web to find out for yourself......?

If you reboot and hold SHIFT, you will see Grub. Use cursors to select Memtest86+

Tested ram using grub and the results are healthy. Perhaps I should re-install the operating system?

Install the xfce4 package and log off. Login to the new XFCE session and test. Is it OK?
