Why HP LaserJet M1005 MFP scaner is not working?

Asked by Navin Talati

I recently upgraded Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10, though before some 30 days or so, the scanner was also not working. I removed completely and reinstalled HPLIP versions , Simple Scan, Kscanlite, SANE etc. many times before and after upgrading. But the result is NIL ! In System Settings, it shows TWO printers icons. Both indicates same printer. Printing work it is doing - no problem. But the csaning gets aborted. During scan, most of the times the printer sounds physically doing the work of scaning by moving the light in the device, but on the scan window it appears a partial view of the page which is scanned. Or sometimes nothing.
I also updated and upgraded the system but the scaning problem remained the same. In assessing system setting > colours , it shows
SMB2230 Monitor ON
HP LaserJet M1005 Scanner Not calibrated
HP Laser Jet m1005 Printer Not calibrated
These also asks to "Add profile" and asks to "Import file" having "Supported ICC Profiles". But how to select these appropriate files is not known to me. Please guide for this.
So that my printer can work properly for PRINTING and SCANNING both.
Thanks.

Have you installed HPLIP Binary Plug-In? See site below.

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_m1005.html

3 Scan supported means that PC initiated scan using a SANE compatible software application is supported over parallel, USB, or network (depending on I/O connection). Information on digital sending products is covered in note 9, below.

9 Device supports digital sending, not standard scanning protocols. See this (KB article) for more info.

Driver Plugin Information:

This printer REQUIRES a downloadable driver plug-in. Use (HP-SETUP) to install the printer, and to download and install the plug-in. In general, required driver plugins are required for printing support. Driver plug-ins are released under a proprietary (non-open) license and are not part of the HPLIP tarball release.

Did this printer ever work with Ubuntu? I have never did this, not sure how well it will work. Good Luck

The first 2 show the release of Ubuntu (works on all GNU compliant distributions) and the kernel version. The last command shows the USB attached devices.

If you install the latest hplip it may help.

Can you help with this problem?
