Cancel a shutdown request shuts down anyway

Asked by tadiv

I'm on 14.04 (3.13.0-46 Generic) and using the GNOME Flashback (metacity) desktop - IF I select the icon to access Shutdown, logout, about, etc, and I select Shutdown, there is a dialog popup that asks me to confirm that I want to shutdown. Today I decided that I did not want to shutdown, so I selected the [cancel] button - and the system shutdown anyway. I tried again and it is very repeatable - either button shuts down the system. It seems like this is probably a bug, but I'm not here much and could not figure out how to submit it as a bug.

Run:

ubuntu-bug gnome-panel

To start the process. It will be moved by the bug guys if it is appropriate.

In the many messages that followed my bug submission, one said that it was a duplicate of a bug that was fixed in 14.10 - so much for support of the LTS distribution...

Posting additional info now (since there is a fix and I have it installed)... The bug is at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1363630

The short version is 1) in the Software Updater, under settings, check the box next to 'Pre-released updates (trusty-proposed)' - you'll need the root password, close the dialog, and update;
2) run 'sudo apt-get install indicator-session' in a terminal

The fixed package should be installed. I recommend unchecking the box by ' Pre-released updates (trusty-proposed)' so that you don't accidentally install a bunch of proposed code.

When I wrote " in the Software Updater, under settings, check the box next to 'Pre-released updates (trusty-proposed)' - you'll need the root password, close the dialog, and update;" - I did not mean "install the updates offered by the Software Updater" - I meant "select the [reload] button" on the dialog that pops up when you close the settings dialog...
