Best ubuntu school version

Asked by Baffy

Hi there,

Im about to install school computers for a school,
the computers I have recieved are very old and are
missing harddrives.

My plan was to buy some USB sticks instead of new
harddrives since its cheaper. The computers are
laptops from 2006 and have around 1gb memory
and singel - dual core 1.6-2.2GHZ CPU.

I was wondering what UBUNTU verison/type I
want to use and what size on the USB Sticks for
the cheapest but working solution. I was thinking
about using KUBUNTU/EDUBUNTU but I have no
expierience with this, please give me some help.

Regards
Bastian

Its uncertain, Im working with a humanitarian organization and
have no idea where they will be used, but my estimation is
between 8-16 years.

Im also looking and some free education programs and games if
you would know some good once.

I'd stick to the default Ubuntu with Unity shell until you become conversant with the OS.

You can find lots of applications for your needs in Software Centre.

Well I have alot of experience with Ubuntu myself, its just that
there is alot of other "types" of ubuntu and older versions that
may be better that has lower requirments and so on.

But, yes, Ill try to use Ubuntu with Unity and see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies.
