new version of all video downloader does not work; keeps asking to download new version

I use Ubuntu 12.04 and All Video Down-loader was working fine. A few weeks ago I started the application and was advised that a new version was available. I downloaded the new version but when I try to start it, it still asks me to download the new version. I removed the application and downloaded it again but problem persists. I tried to download a video from Youtube and received an error message that 'video cannot be found'. I am not very conversant yet with Ubuntu; may be I have to carry out some further steps to make it work properly. I wrote to the developers 2 or 3 weeks ago but got no reply so far. I would appreciate your help. Thanks
