no sound since ubuntu was updated

i have no sound since the update mid 2014.. i am a iraq war vet and i live on disability and i cant afford to pay someone to get the sound back this computer was given to me and im not tech savvy at all what can i/we/you do to help me get the sound back any help would be appreciated thank you... kurt fuetter

Try:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.config/pulse* ~/.pulse*

Wait ten seconds then try some sound stuff.

Anytime someone sends you a command like above, don't type, copy and paste. It is very easy to miss something in command.
