Can you not press CTRL +ALT +F1 and login to TTY1 then run:

killall -u $USER

Does that not work rather than a reboot?

Tried what you suggested -CTRL+ALT+F1, and F2 didn't do anything. It works normally, it does switch to the TTYx
If I have Medi a player running a song, then close a lid - it keeps playing. Open the lid - plays for a fraction of a second, and then stops, screen stays black all the time. Have to reboot with Power Buton.

SImply locking and unlocking a screen from the panel without closing a lid works fine. If media player plays a song pauses playing when screen locks, and picks up playing back when screen is unloked.
