Error 5 (input/output error) usually indicates that either the file that you are reading, or the file you are writing to is broken.

To be able to help, we need more information about what you have done to get such error message:

What operating system and what OS version is your computer running, what version of VMware, what operating system are you trying to install in VMware, and from what source, at what moment do you get that error message, what is the full error message, etc. etc.

Ok. There are two possibilities:

1. The installation medium is not good, have you tested the MD5SUM? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM#MD5SUM_on_Windows

2. Something went wrong during your attempt to do the installation, so restarting the creation of the virtual machine might resolve the problem.

To make sure that there is no problem on your windows hard disk, you should run a disk check.

Is there scope to use Virtualbox? It's easier to use than VMWare in my experience.

Can you help with this problem?
