fingerprint reader on ubuntu

Asked by Anbu

I've a Dell E6430 with fingerprint reader. Cannot get this to work in gnome ubuntu. Installed the fingerprint gui, but it says no fingerprint devices found.

    lsusb output gives this:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0a5c:5801 Broadcom Corp. BCM5880 Secure Applications Processor with fingerprint swipe sensor

How can i get this to work? Please help

Please read this:

fingerprint-gui only supports following fingerprint readers:

Supported readers (run command lsusb to find out the ID of your reader)

Did you try contacting Dell?

Fingerprint readers not working is hardly significant.

I did call Dell - no help.
They said my laptop is supposed to have windows and they cannot support linux. They gave me a 1-800 number to call for dell linux support - but its no good. Always says call later.

++ affected. This is a major issue, our entire corporate laptop pool has these readers and they are unusable on Ubuntu. WTF.

You don't have to use them.... I have one on my work laptop and it's never been used. I can log in just fine
