"Permission Denied" on Win XP Installation

I have attempted 3 or 4 times to install Ubunto 14.04.1 LTS 32-bit inside the Win XP operating system of my laptop. I downloaded the ISO files and burned them to a DVD. I verified the .iso file using the MD5SUM software as recommended in the instructions. I then tried the Ubuntu OS, using the DVD. Everything worked fine (and it is really cool!). But I have been unable to install the Ubunto system onto my laptop. I have followed the steps as outlined in the instructions. It takes 2-3 hours for the files to download and the installation popup indicates that the files are all loading properly. However, when the download completes, I get a notice: "Permission denied - For more information, please see the log file..." I have read several threads about similar issues, but I haven't seen anything that has helped me. Thanks for any help!! Here is one of the log files:

Quite is dead. It has not been developed in nearly 3 Years and is abandoned.

Boot to the Ubuntu CD and make a real dual boot. The CD can resize the NTFS that XP is using.

With all large system changes be sure your regular backups are up to date before starting.

XP is also dead. You could use this as a time to wipe the OS and do a full drive install of Ubuntu.

You can restore your user data from your backups.

Andrew: Thanks for the reply to my issue. You have cleared things up for me. I suspected that wubi was the problem. Knowing wubi is dead and unsupported explains why that installation method doesn't work. I wonder why wubi has not been taken down from the Ubunto website. Anyway, I suppose there are instructions on Ubunto website (or on an internet search) for making a real dual boot. Also, I know Win XP is no longer supported and is problematic. My plans are to keep XP as an alternative until I am up and running with another operating system (hopefully, Ubuntu). Once I get comfortable with Ubuntu (and issues with XP increase), I'll ditch the Windows OS. [I'll work on making the dual boot today.]

OK, I've been trying to make the dual boot but haven't been able to make it
happen. The problem now is that I can't seem to be able to partition my drive
properly. I have an existing unused partition (D on my hard drive, which is
where I would like to install Ubuntu. I would like to partition D so that it
would have 2GB for swap and the remainder for root (/). But every time I try
to make part of D for one function (for instance, I make 2GB a swap portion),
the software makes the remainder of drive D "unusable" and I can't do anything
with it. I have been trying to partition the drive using Ubuntu partitioning utility on the Installation Disk. What's the problem?

Delete the D:

D: is a partition. NTFS cannot hold Linux permissions.

Once you have the space unallocated, boot to the Ubuntu CD and make your partitions in the installer.

Sorry, I guess I don't fully get it (I've never messed with partitions). I changed the D: partition from NTFS to ext4 from within the installer (now I can't change it back to NTFS - that option is not available in the installer). So how do I "unallocate" space? Do I unallocate space using some utility other than one furnished on Ubuntu CD? And from where do I unallocate space? And how then do I make the space ext4? Also, should I install some utility to revert my D: partition back to NTFS. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE!

I finally got Ubuntu OS installed alongside the Win XP system on my laptop. Although I'm certainly not an "expert" now, I believe I could walk someone through the process needed to install Ubuntu along with existing Win XP on his/her desktop or laptop.
