I am trying to install teamviewer in Ubuntu 14.04 64bit

Asked by William Gamache

I have tried useing software center like the website said. Both versions 32-64 bit matriarch and the 64 bit version. Software center does not respond at all on 64 bit version and the 32-64 bit matriarch version says missing 32bit library lib32asound. tried following website instructions for installing 32bit library and dependancies in terminal but still same results.
I really need this for work, anysuggestions will be much appreciated, Thanx

What is the purpose of the install? What do you intend to do on the remote system(s) once you get connected?

There may be a sleeker solution

Without going into too much detail. I need to use teamviewer to connect with my work computer that is already set up with it. The work computer can only run xp. It is old, and has to run xp for older programs that are not upgradeable for other os . And I need to remote control it sometimes from home. I am not able to install another remote viewer on it or I would. I am stuck with this as my only option for now.

Why not use RDP? You can install rdesktop in Ubuntu and connect to the system. You just need to enable remote logins in XP.

I tried everything in the video. Line by line, move by move. It did not work on my system. I guess I have to resign myself to the fact that teamviewer will never work on ubuntu anymore. It's a shame too, not because of what will it implicates to me personally but it seems that ubuntu is not going to be able to claim they are a totally open system anymore what with the ease of networking gone and now teamviewer gone. It seems that all these upgrades are makeing for a tighter more closed system that will soon rival windows. Seems backwards compatability is out now.

the guy in the video has it working, so it DOES work. Just because you cannot get it going doesn’t mean it is impossible.

Think about it

When following the video, did you encounter any error message? If yes, what was its full text?

What is the output of the following terminal commands:

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo dpkg --audit
dpkg --print-foreign-architectures
dpkg -l | grep teamv
dpkg -l | grep asound
