HP 14-v015TU Notebook touchpad is detected as PS2 Mouse with any Ubuntu

Asked by Owais Idris

Product Name: HP 14-v015TU Notebook
Operating System: Linux

I bought a new HP Laptop its touch pad is working fine with factory installed windows but detected as an ps2 mouse with any ubuntu version.

I tried on Following versions:

1) Ubuntu 14.04

2)Ubuntu 14.10

3)Ubuntu 12.04

4)Deepin Os 2014.2

... even updated each time I installed.

Other references I tried

1) Some ask to use something called "synaptiks" but it prompted no touch device found.

2) Reset Bios , by removing battery and then press and hold power button for 10 sec

This is problem with HP persist with many HP laptops.

My Bios Version was Insyde F.09 now updated to F.35 I guess.

I dont understand at what level should I try to rectify as everything starts from Bios

Please Help!!

Deepinos is based on Ubuntu so the driver set and kernel will be identical. Not really trying something new. It's just a different set of default applications and desktop theme.

The fact that it is detected as a PS2 mouse is no bad thing. It makes it easier to manage as the OS will see it as a "normal " mouse so require no additional drivers. SD card readers will frequently show in the output of lsusb despite being internal. It's just the bus the device attaches to.

Is the system a Chromebook 14?

The BIOS update will help.

Ubuntu is detecting my touchpad as ps2 mouse and it is even behaving same. I am not able to scroll. And not even shown in systems settings. Now I have finally installed Ubuntu 14.10 and waiting for a kernal update which finally solve my problem.
