Problem logging into Ubuntu 6.10

Asked by Karthik. B

Hello everybody,
Recently i downloaded ubuntu 6.10 alternate installer CD without any errors. I checked checksum and ran "Check CD for defects". Everything is alright without any errors. I installed Ubuntu 6.10 successfully. But when i boot Ubuntu 6.10, I'm unable to enter username because whatever i type is not displaying in username field. Numlock, Capslock and Scrolllock indicators on my keyboard are not becoming on and off each time i press corresponding key. Even i'm unable to move my mouse. It is standstill at the center of screen. I successfully typed username and password when it asked to suggest a username and password during installation process. Whats the problem behind this? How can i overcome this problem? Can anybod y suggest how to resolve this problem.

You could try restarting X if that'd help (CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE)

Are you able to switch to a terminal from GDM? (CTRL+ALT+F1...F6)

From there we would be able to debug your setup better than from the unresponsive login screen ;)
