How to quit a running package manager by command line?

Asked by Navin Talati

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Recently, during upgrading HP LIP to its latest version 3.14.10, in the terminal it appeared a warning as under:-

A package manager 'tail -F' appears to be running. Please quit the package manager and press enter to continue (i=ignore, r=retry*, f=force, q=quit) :

My questions are:

(1). What is the meaning of -- A package manager 'tail -F' ?
(2). How could one know that it is running?
(3). Through which command it could be Quit?

Please reply in a simple and detailed explenetary way as I am not a computer/ubuntu qualified person.
thanks and regards.

The printer you are trying to setup requires a binary driver

AND

During executing printingt job, it suggested as :

“Driver Plug-in Required

Clicking the 'NEXT' in the 2 nd step it warned as under:

“ /home/navin/.hplip/hplip-3.14.10-plug-in.run file does not match its
checksum. File may have been currupted or altered “

While assessing the file “.hplip” there exist only THREE files named
(1) hplip.conf
(2) hp-systray.lock
(3) hp-upgrade.log

In above files (2) and (3) are blank.
In (1), the content is as under:

[upgrade]
notify_upgrade = true
last_upgraded_time = 1422554106
pending_upgrade_time = 0
latest_available_version = 3.14.10

I tried by altering the “pending_upgrade_time = 0” as “pending_upgrade_time = 1” and tried to install the plugin. But Plug-in could not be installed.

Please, guide further – How to resolve this issue? It seems that the HPLIP v 3.14.10 is installed but only its proper plug-in is required to be installed. How to do it?

Thanks in anticipation.
