Also try removing old unused kernels and clean temp files with Bleachbit. Be very careful

I do not see much space to be gained easily. There are about 2 GB space free (of the 10 GB total), how much does FM2014 need?

hi its needs 4gig lol but heres the thing...i installed ubuntu 14.10 on a partition of mu chromebook c720...can i not just have the chromebook os overwritten by a fresh ubuntu install (effectively deleting all partitions and just having 1 clean install on ubuntu) hence giving me more space and just 1 os?

It is up to you to decide on the use of your hard disk. Of course it is possible to have Ubuntu as the only operating system.

What is the total size of your hard disk? How is its current layout, what operating systems do you currently have installed?

Please provide the output of the command

sudo fdisk -l

Sorry, but I do not dare to give any recommendation on a system like yours. I do not own a chromebook myself and have never worked with ChromeOS.

Try:

sudo apt-get clean

You can also use bleachbit (carefully) to remove temp data. Your file system is quite small anyway:

/dev/sda7 9.8G 7.2G 2.1G 78% /

So it os only 10Gb to start with.... you can only work with what you have, so wantin 4Gb for an app when you only have 10Gb is a bit of an ask.

You will need to delete lots of music / images and whatnot to clear space.

Your hard disk is 14.9 GiB (16 GB) in total, partitioned into several parts. The main file system /dev/sda7 being 10.5 GB (9.8 GiB), with about 2.1 GB currently free. Your aim is to have 4GB free on it for installation of a certain program.

Just to outline some of the options that you have:

1. You can try freeing more space by deleting files (e.g. cached files, unneeded packages). Not sure if it will be possible to free up the total amount required.
2. You can repartition and reformat the whole disk, and incorporate all extra partitions into the main partition. (You would lose the contents of those other partitions. The whole exercise most probably would best be done by a complete new installation of Ubuntu.)
3. You can add another (external) hard disk and configure the system to use that space in addition.

Manfred, Would u look at the link below and tell me ur thoughts...

Is the hard drive big enough for both chrome OS an Ubuntu OS to be partitioned side by side?

Can i just have Ubuntu to replace chrome OS? If so how please?

I am sorry, but I cannot answer these questions. I have never used ChromeOS, so I do not know its requirements.
