Trust usb sound card extreme distortion in ALSA

Asked by Eric Casteleijn

I have a Trust SC-5500 USB sound card, which I can not seem to get working in ALSA. When I plug it in, it is recognized (although as a generic USB sound device, maybe that is the problem), but when I go to sound configuration and set everything to USB Sound, all the test buttons result in a horribly distorted sound. It sounds as way too much gain is applied. I tried setting every option I could find in alsamixer and the gnome mixer, but the sound remains distorted, even at very low volumes. Under OSS, I do get relatively normal sound but with a lot of clicks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sound on Linux continues to confuse the expletive out of me. ;)

I'd rather not upgrade to an unreleased version, but if that will solve my problem, I'm happy and I'll wait for the final next month. Yes the card works fine in XP, without installing any additional drivers. I read about audiopulse but I didn't realize ALSA was going away altogether, I just thought audiopulse would be yet another layer of sound abstraction ;)
