ATI Radeon 9200 Graphics Card

Asked by Mark

Have been running Gutsy since October without any graphics problems. However, for the past few weeks, every few boots I find that the monitor image is "squashed" and the fonts appear smaller. By experimeting, I have found that logging out and then logging back in solves the problem 100% of the time. Any suggestions for a solution?

I have gone to screen and graphics preferences, and the driver being used is "radeon - ATI Radeon cards". The graphics card is shown as "ATI Radeon (fglrx)". Can anyone help please?

Hello

You can install the ATI binary drivers by using the Restricted Manager.
Go to Menu->System->Administration->Restricted Drivers Manager and check the Enabled box.
You may need to re-generate your Xorg.conf as well. You can do it by typing the following command in a terminal/console: (applications -> accessories -> terminal)

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Hope this helps.

Bhavani. When I try to go to Restricted Drivers Manager, I get a dialog box stating that "your hardware does not need any restricted drivers". Mark.

Then fine..

give the following command in a terminal

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Or for those questions with high priority use:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Hope this helps.

Bhavani. Your second solution seems to have worked, as I haven't had the problem for quite a few boots. Thanks!

I can still resolve the issue for each session by logging out then logging back in. I would prefer a permanent fix to avoid having to do this!
