Dual Booting with Ubuntu 1404 and Windows 7 on UEFI Fir

Asked by Tom Field

I have been using the instructions outlined Here:

http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2014/05/30/dual-boot-ubuntu-14-04-and-windows-7-on-a-pc-with-uefi-firmware/

to set up a Dell Inspiron 660s with Ubuntu 1404 and Windows 7. The computer came with Win 8 installed, which I despise and removed. Everything went well through the Ubuntu install, and upon restart, I'm able to choose which OS in which to boot.
Checking the bios shows "ubuntu" as the first boot choice. So I rebooted and this time chose windows. The OS loaded without problem. Upon restart, or power down and power up only Windows will load. Checking the bios shows that the previous listing of ubuntu is nowhere to be found and "windows boot manager" which wasn't present, now occupies the first choice position in the boot list. Where do I go from here to keep windows from rewriting the boot file with each shutdown or startup?

I'm still pretty much a novice, so take this with a grain of salt:

I think the standard recommendation is to install Windows first and then shrink down the partition to make room for Ubuntu. Otherwise Windows will mess with your BIOS and create the problem you're experiencing. When I've done dual boot systems, that's the guideline I followed and didn't experience any difficulties (except it's kind of annyoying when you've got the countdown to boot into Ubuntu before it automatically boots to Windows).

As Follow up,
I found that every time windows booted, it rewrote the boot record. The solution is outlined here:
