Not able to install Ubuntu on VmWare

Asked by Chalapathi

I am getting the below error message when i try to power on the ubuntu.

Preferred mode unavailable. Using binary translation instead.

This host supports Intel VT-x, but Intel VT-x is disabled.

Intel VT-x might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting.

(1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable Intel VT-x and disable 'trusted execution.'

(2) Power-cycle the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.

(3) Power-cycle the host if you have not done so since installing VMware Workstation.

(4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version.

Not able to figure out where went wrong.

Why do you want a 64bit Ubuntu VM? Are you going to be using acres of RAM?

Sounds like you need to enable VT/X but I don't use VMWare personally.

Is there no scope to use Virtualbox?

The list of things to do from the error message is pretty clear: You have to activate VT-x in your BIOS/EFI.

As far as I know all virtualization solutions (e.g. VMware, Virtualbox) require certain capabilities of the CPU (namely VT-X).
That feature is usually disabled in the BIOS, and when you intend to use virtualization, you have to enable it.

Reboot your system and press the adequate key to enter the BIOS configuration dialogue, search the BIOS setup screens for an entry that is named Virtualization, or VT-X, or similar, enable that, save the settings and reboot. Then try using VMware again and report if there is any change.

Can you help with this problem?
