Unable to use controls

After using a program to remove unnecessary apps, I was left with a desktop that has no menu or title bar. And ctrl+alt+T doesn't open a terminal. Also the right mouse button doesn't offer any options. I don't know what I removed, but would like to salvage this rather that do a complete install.

Apparently I removed part of Compiz that required a re-install. I was able to do this from the Synaptic panel. After reinstall I was able to once again use the desktop functions.
