Find out if I have proprietary software on my system

Asked by Fred

I am worried that my system might contain proprietary software.

Is there any way to check the system for proprietary software/packages and list the proprietary software/packages, so that I can find out if I have proprietary software and remove them?

System→Administration→Synaptic→Origin (left lower corner)→ nonfree software (by free i mean GPL or similar licences) is situated in repositories "restricted" and "multiverse" - so choose this two repositories from "menu" on the left and remove packages/apps you have installed.

Note: If you want to have 100% free operating system you could use Gobuntu - http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/gobuntu

I don't have "Restricted" and "Multiverse".

However, I do have "Local/main", "Local/restricted" and "Local/universe".

Under "Local/restricted" it lists "linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic" and "nvidia-glx-new".

But I know there are more non-free software on my computer. I know there are "RAR" and "Flash" installed.

I don't have any "Multiverse" or "Local/multiverse". :(

However, I do have "archive.ubuntu.com/multiverse".

Synaptic 0.61-ubuntu6

Oh, thanks.

Hmm, I don't think there are any way to copy & paste them from Synaptic into the forum, is there? :(

I had few more proprietary packages, than I thought I had...
Hmm, but I think it was me who was dumb enough to install them...

Does Ubuntu come with any proprietary packages installed by default?
