Asked by Karthik. B

Is there any otherwayz to install ubuntu 6.10 otherthan from Live CD? If so give in details how to proceed. I'm encountering few problems installing from Live CD regarding mouse and keyboard. Mouse and keyboard are not working during installation from Live CD. Is there any alternate way to install ubuntu 6.10 otherthan from Live CD?

You can use the alternate CD which is a separate image. The only way to install off the Live CD is using the GUI installer on the desktop.

You would need to download it and burn it to CD though. Alternatively if your computer has PS/2 mouse/keyboard ports and you have a non-USB mouse and keyboard you could use those for the installation.

I recently downloaded Ubuntu 6.10 alternate CD installer without any errors and defects in CD. I successfully installed Ubuntu 6.10. After completion it rebooted and appeared Ubuntu login screen. There I'm unable to login because i'm unable to enter user name. None of the keys on my keyboard are not working. Numlock, Capslock and scrolllock indicators are not becoming on and off each time i press the corresponding key. During installation when it asked to suggest username, i successfully entered username. Even my mouse is standstill at center of screen. I'm unable to move my mouse and it seems to be sticked to the screen. Whats the problem with Ubuntu 6.10 regarding mouse and keyboard problems? How can i resolve this problem and enjoy with Ubuntu 6.10?

I am afraid the problem is likely unique to you and your hardware. If you could try an other keyboard+mouse (preferably even ps2 ones) you could start up System->Administration>Synaptic and ask it to upgrade your software (reload->mark all upgrades->apply). With some luck it will fix the problems.

What you have there sounds to me like kernel and/or X.org problems with your mainboard's USB controller. If the updating software doesn't help getting your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/kern.log are quite crucial for pinpointing the problem accurately.

Can you help with this problem?
